J. Taylor Beard

Taylor Beard joined the University of Virginia in 1965 after obtaining an undergraduate degree from Auburn University and a PhD degree from Oklahoma State University. He retired from the faculty in 2006. Dr. Beard’s other professional positions have been with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Energy and Environmental Research Corporation, and Associated Environmental Consultants. Teaching assignments have generally been in the areas of heat transfer, energy systems, engineering design, and the financial aspects of engineering. Dr. Beard has developed instructional materials and has taught numerous short courses related to municipal solid waste combustion and air pollution control from combustion sources.
Dr. Beard directed a number of research projects in the areas of thermal systems performance modeling and analysis, including applications related to air conditioning systems, solar energy heating and cooling systems, energy storage, and combustion systems.
Dr. Beard is a Fellow of ASME and he has served as chair of the ASME Solar Energy Division. He is also a member of ASHRAE.
