Hossein Haj-Hariri joined the University in the Summer of 1988 and is currently a Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE). He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering (6/83), and an M.S. (5/84) and a Ph.D. (2/87) in Mechanical Engineering (applied mechanics) from MIT. Prior to joining the University, he was a visiting faculty associate (2/87-6/88) at the MAE department at the Arizona State University.

Dr. Haj-Hariri’s research interests range from applied mathematics to applied mechanics and fluid mechanics. In particular, he is active in the modeling of interfacial flows with applications to microgravity materials processing. His other areas of research are hydrodynamic stability, acoustics, vortex breakdown, numerical techniques, and mathematical analysis of partial differential equations.

Dr. Haj-Hariri is a member of the Division of Fluid Dynamics of the American Physical Society, and regularly chairs technical sessions during the annual meeting in November. He has been elected to the Advisory Board of the CFD Journal.
