Dr. Edward Berger received the PhD degree from Purdue University in 1996 and has been a faculty member for the past 10 years. He started his academic career at the University of Cincinnati, where he was recognized with the UC College of Engineering's highest teaching honor ("Professor of the Year") in the 2001-2002 academic year.

He is presently associate professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Virginia. He serves on two committees for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), in vibration and sound as well as nanosystems. He has authored over 25 technical publications, and secured research funding from the National Science Foundation, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and Sandia National Laboratory.

His current technical research focuses on nanoscale material characterization and atomic force microscopy, while his educational interests include instructional design using technology, especially tablet PC's and podcasting.

In his spare time, he plays with his kids (Jack, 5 and Nick, 2), enjoys soccer and running, and tries to squeeze in time to read.
