Aerospace, 84; Ph.D. Mechanical and Aerospace, 89, University of Virginia) joined the faculty of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia in 1989 as a Research Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1997. His work has focused on the development and application of control theory to a variety of mechatronic systems, with a focus on magnetic levitation and vibration control. Much of his recent work has focused on the analysis and control of infinite dimensional systems that arise in engineering application, primarily due to delays resulting from the movement of materials and information within. Dr. Knospe is the author of over 25 archival papers and 40 conference publications. He was co-editor of IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technologys Special Issue on Magnetic Bearing Control. He has received numerous awards including Best Paper at both the 5th and 6th International Symposia on Magnetic Bearings (Kanazawa, Japan; Cambridge, Mass.). Dr. Knospe has taught several short courses in North America and Europe, most recently Practical Techniques for Control Engineering at the American Control Conference. He is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Control System Technology. More information Publications |
