Untaroiu joined the University of Virginia faculty in May of 2008 and leads the computational group of the Center of Applied Biomechanics. He received a Diploma (B.S. & M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Vibrations from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest (Romania), a Diploma in Applied Mathematics from the University of Bucharest, and a Ph.D. in Impact Biomechanics from the University of Virginia. Dr. Untaroiu's current research focuses on the development and validation of human finite element models used in the automotive impact simulations. Other research interests include evaluation of the effectiveness of automobile restraint systems, investigation of crash accidents using numerical simulations and optimization techniques, rotor balancing, and design optimization in rotordynamics.
