Join ASME at U.Va

General Membership:

Any UVa student (regardless of class year or major) may become a general member of ASME at UVa simply by emailing our Secretary (eab7g@virginia.edu) and asking to have your name added to our membership/email list. You may also ask to have your name removed from this list at any time for any reason. ASME at UVa has adopted an "open door" membership policy through which students may participate as much or as little as they would like in the various projects and activities that we sponsor each semester. This means that if a particular project sounds fun and you have time, you can join in and work on it at any time, but there is no real commitment to work on anything that you don't want to. The mission of ASME at UVa is basically to have fun making cool stuff."

Executive Board Membership:

The Executive Board of ASME at UVa is represents the voting members of the group. The Executive Board holds special meetings every 2-3 weeks and votes on everything from which projects, contest, field trips, etc. that the group will work on to electing new officers and Executive Board members. In order to become a member of the executive board, you must be nominated by two current Exective Board members and the rest of the Executive Board must vote you into this group through a majority-rules vote. All Executive Board members are also required to officially register themselves as members of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

The quickest way to become an ASME member and start taking advantages of the benefits is to sign up directly through the ASME website. Watch out for a tutorial soon.
