U.Va ASME
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional body, specifically an engineering society, focused on mechanical engineering.

ASME International:
ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges. Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world.
Mission: To serve our diverse global communities by advancing, disseminating and applying engineering knowledge for improving the quality of life; and communicating the excitement of engineering.
Vision: ASME will be the essential resource for mechanical engineers and other technical professionals throughout the world for solutions that benefit humankind.
UVa ASME:
As a student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, UVa ASME’s purpose is to engage the students in a variety of events and activities. These are meant to enhance our interactions as mechanical students, possibly motivating the student toward a particular academic or professional goal.
This year we will attend the Student Leadership Seminar in the Fall and the regional student conference in the spring. A major addition to this year’s activities is the involvement in the 2010 Student Design Competition which takes place at the regional conference. We also plan to hold a barbeque or design competition every two-three weeks with a variety of guest speakers from academia or industry and facility tours held throughout the year.
