Professor’s Energy Makes National Impact

Pamela NorrisPamela Norris, MAE Frederick Tracy Morse Professor and UVA Engineering Executive Associate Dean of Research, was drawn to engineering by the opportunity to make a profound difference. It’s what has driven her to become one of the school’s most productive faculty members and to receive a number of awards, including ASME Fellow, SEAS Distinguished Faculty Member, SWE Distinguished Engineering Educator and UVA Zintl Award. “She is an extraordinarily accomplished researcher who helps our faculty focus their efforts on interdisciplinary research that can truly make a difference in the world,” says Dean Craig Benson. Norris has also channeled her energy to engage women in engineering, especially through her leadership of an NSF ADVANCE Institutional Transformation grant: CHARGE. As a result of such efforts, UVA is now the #1 public university in the country in terms of percent of women pursuing engineering degrees. As Benson noted, “Her talents and leadership are bringing UVA Engineering to the next level.”
